Sermon delivered on November 23, 2008
President-to-be Obama initially said he would lay low during the final Bush days because he wanted there to be no confusion internationally or nationally as to who the President was. I hope he'll stick to that! We can respect his decision because it displays his understanding of the significance of ROLES. Roles are a part of life. In basketball, what if the forward always tried to rebound, dribble down the court, set up the team, and take the shot? He would be forgetting his, and other's, roles. In baseball, one team member cannot play both the outfield and catcher simultaneously. And maybe more touching, no one enjoys a co-worker who has decided he can do your job better!
Roles exist to better a team, to further a company, to unify a church, to prosper a nation, and as we'll consider today, to solidify a family. In the final section of our series, "What We Believe," we're taking the month of November to look at Family. Last week we saw how God's Word directs husbands. The week before, wives. Today we'll look at the home, the family as a whole. God has given ROYAL ROLES to each family member -- roles for our good, but primarily meant to bring Him glory. Colossians 3:18-25 will get us going, though we'll consider a number of other verses...
